Jack Laver Brister is a young dealer/ decorator who lives in the present with a great love and appreciation for the past. Having grown up in relaxed, unpretentious interiors, from an early age he was taken by his antiques dealer grandfather on buying trips to flea markets, auctions and fairs. Jack’s style has developed from these experiences and the familiar surroundings that he describes as having a comfortable, well-loved feel, with a layered look.

Known as ‘Tradchap’ by his many Instagram followers, he deals in country-house furniture, soft furnishings and lighting. The decorating side of his business grew in response to customers admiring his personal style and knack for conjuring antiques-filled spaces that look like they have always been there.

His current shop is in south Somerset, in a colonial-style building with a tin roof overlooking open fields. It attracts a broad customer base from private clients through to members of the trade. His pieces are never over-restored, often in original condition, with the character of the patina gained through their age still apparent. He tends to source items he would have in his own house, including glazed cabinets, column lamps, whimsical dining chairs, oil portraits and decorative items found on his travels.
